As it happens, I work full time, as does almost every SWS mom I know. (Honestly, off hand I can only think of two stay-at-home SWS parents, but that’s surely a reflection of my social crowd from my four years with multiple kids at the school.)
But nice stereotyping!!
Anyway, SWS has been a fabulous school for both my high-achieving child and my kid with a robust IEP.

Oh, and Thomson would probably work well, location-wise. Note that they're considering changing their language offerings (currently they offer Mandarin to 1st grade and up; they may switch to Spanish).

SWS is going to be at its current location for the fall and then in a swing space in Carver Langston starting January 2021 (so, mid-way through the upcoming school year). Are either options anywhere close to you? Capitol Hill Montessori is still up near Columbia Heights for another year, so likely too far out of the way given your commute.

If you are open to Appletree Southwest, I agree with a previous poster that you should look into Appletree Oklahoma Ave. You could also list Appletree Lincoln Park.
You should definitely lists School Within School (SWS). Probably first, as a previous poster indicated. If TRY is a very convenient location for you then the swing space for SWS will be convenient too.
I think Payne and JO Wilson might be wasted spots at this point.

We're not looking for language immersion (DH and I are fluent in German and Russian, neither of which are offered). And we want to keep the commute down, bonus if we can not have to use a car.
WOW! There are a good neighborhood schools EOTR especially for Prk-elementary. What is your IB?? DCPS does prk pretty well everywhere your kids will be fine.

Stokes EE is language-immersion, but any feedback? If it's a place people have good feelings about, we might consider the French side. I'm decently proficient in French.

What's your IB school? Miner? what's your commute like ? I think you should enter the lottery because there inst any harm in entering. That being said, maybe you need look into the area and commute a little closer seems it may be all over. If you are starting from scratch, maybe consider getting someone who can help you? For basic information on the schools, use the DC School Report Cards. I wouldn't worry too much about the number of 'stars' a school gets since that's more about upper grades that PreK https://dcschoolreportcard.org/

I would suggest you give your IB a chance, however briefly. Many iffy schools are fine for preschool. And give Langdon and Langley a real look. You could also put Shining Stars. Would you consider getting a car for a top choice? If so, maybr Inspired Teaching.

I would consider Stokes EE in your shoes but I guess not if you really are not interested in immersion.
