The law requires that kids not be exited out of special education/IEP without comprehensive evaluations in all areas of need. "All the paperwork" is what protects you and your child and provides accountability for the school. This is egregious enough that you should consider filing a state complaint, since I bet they are kicking other kids out of special education too. https://osse.dc.gov/service/specialized-education-state-complaints

SpEd teacher here. They’re not the same at all. They provide SOME of the same rights and protections. They are not the same “without all the paperwork”. Yikes.

Yep. You can't really enforce much with a 504. Good luck op. Escalate all the way and get your child moved out of the class.

Advocates for justice in education may be able to help. The school has a board of directors. There's also the dcpcsb.

Principal. THen executive director (if there is one).
If you go through the hierarchy at your school, your next option is to go to the Office of the Ombudsman https://sboe.dc.gov/page/office-ombudsman-public-education
Note: if this involves a student with an IEP and it isn't being implemented, then there are additional options.

How do I escalate an issue with a teacher? She and her assistant are bullying my kid (twice already) and it is having a devastating effect.
I complained after the first time and was given the run-around by the school.
