sounds like my 12 year old. seems like the whole exchange could have been 30 seconds of you simply grabbing the paper.

Your husband is crazy. I would expect my kid to do something like that, not a grow adult. Does he act like a child all the time?

Fire safety is a foundation of cooking skills. I understood this as an 8 year old who used to light one of the gas burners with a match with no supervision.

Sounds like he jerked the pot away before she could do anything else. And she did remove the pot from the heat as soon as she smelled burning.

He was totally wrong. And since he dumped soup all over a presumably still hot stovetop, that soup likely burned and crusted onto the stovetop at least a bit--so his is he gets to smell more burning.

If all you PPs have never had something stick to a pan or a burner, well, be glad you're so very perfect. Not all of us are.

To OP: I think you already know that this is not about this one incident. You say it's just one example of an "everyday" interaction. If he's this swift to overreact and storm off and turn HIS overreaction back into you to say it's your fault--you and he need couples therapy or marriage counseling or whatever, stat.

I am alone in the kitchen, cooking soup on the pot. I notice a burning smell, and look on the pot to see that there was just a little piece of paper stuck to the bottom, no big deal.

Cue my husband, who rolls into the kitchen, sees me looking at the pot. "SOMETHING'S BURNING ON THE POT!!" I say, "Yeah I know." He then grabs the pot handle, flips the pot over to look, meanwhile spilling out all of the soup onto the stove top. I yell, incredulous, "WHAT in the world??" He says, "What?? There was something on the bottom of the pot!" He then puts the hot pot directly on to the kitchen counter with no trivet or anything. I grab the pot off the counter, and said "Just STOP."

He then proceeds to walk out of the kitchen, leaving the whole mess behind, hot soup all over the stove top. I said, "So you're not going to clean this up?" And he huffs back at me, "WHAT?! YOU told me to just stop!" So now he's mad at ME. And there goes my soup. And now I have another mess to clean up.
