Do we really want a “poor kids only” camp? I sincerely don’t know. Would low-income parents want that? Would the kids want that?

If they were for low-income families only, there would be an income requirement... Where do you draw the line? My family is middle class, can we use DPR? What about the working poor families, then? Do I have to leave a spot for them?

Maybe you should campaign for set-asides based on income. It's not unkind for people to sign up for a program that is open to them according to the rules established by DPR.

I don't think they're intended for low-income families, I just know several who are disappointed they couldn't get their kid in, and I feel guilty.

In Arlington registration opens at 7. Maybe you can ask your county to switch to that so it’s more fair?

I feel a teeny bit guilty when I sign up my kid for the $70 dollar all day camps. I only do it for a couple of weeks out of the summer. But I don’t feel that bad because it’s not like I got special treatment to get them and my son loves them.

I really don’t think these camps are intended for low income families only. Why would they be?

I'm not saying they should pay more, I'm saying why not allow these spots for people who really need them.

DPR may be more convenient. Maybe that’s where their children’s friends are going. Maybe timing is better.

And everyone benefits when economically diverse kids play together.

Why do you think DPR programs are for lower income people? They are for everyone.

Several friends of ours, with million-dollar homes, are trigger ready for DPR camps and have no problem snagging up spots. This irritates me, because if they're well off, why are they taking up spots of those who need it more? If you have the money but do DPR, do you do it guiltless?
