I did. I got a 2-year-old Acura coming off a lease. My first used car actually.

There are plenty of brand new cars with an engine and four wheels for less than $20,000. I’d take any one of them before I’d pay $25,000 for a used car.

Well, that depends entirely on how old the car is.

would be bad deal,

1. Educate yourself how much a car like you want is worth.
2. Study features and values
3. Collect all comps.
4. Offer fair price.

Done.

Use car gurus and cars.com
For 1 , 2, and 3...
Use your math to do 4.

A schoolgirl can do it.

Ps comps can be from the whole country , in theory
You can have it shipped,, but!!!.. dont.
Buy locally, just negotiate the comps.

The more expensive brand the more elegant dealing.

I never bought used car but you can’t go wrong
With the above.

You are insufferable.

Knowing the way dealerships rip off people with trade ins, they probably have 10k in wiggle room.

I would haggle at keast 2K off a 25K car. BUT, you need to have the financing sorted our first, otherwise they will give you a higher interest rate. So either get a loan somewhere else and pay with that loan. Or sort out your interest rate then haggle the price.

Why not go with a private party? You will save several thousand.

With a used car, should I go by the blue book value when negotiating with a dealer? I’m getting ready to make an offer but don’t know what’s possible.
