Colesville Child Center on New Hampshire Ave right by the ICC entrance. My kids are older but when they were young we used them, as did many neighbors, and we all loved it. Their hours were long - like 7 am to 6:30 pm.

Our church, Emmanuel United Methodist Church in North Laurel, has a preschool for ages 2-5. The web-site says they have openings for 2020-2021 school year in the 3 and 4 year old classes. They do have before and after care and half-day, extended-day and before/after care are all available.

I have to admit that I don't know much about the program, but the web-site says that they are MSDE (MD State Dept of Education) certified at a level 5 rating. The rooms are well organized. My children attend Sunday school in two of the preschool rooms on Sundays, so we've seen the rooms. And from the displays on the walls, they do teach the basics. Plus the playground is nice (my kids have played there).

EUMC is located just off MD-216 between MD-29 and I-95, so it is convenient for you in Burtonsville. You can find more on their web-site at:

When our children were pre-K, we used Julia Brown Montessori in Laurel. The school is open 7am - 6pm. The preschool classes are 8:30-11:15 or 12:15-3:00. pre-k attend one Montessori session per day and then are in the daycare room or playground (weather permitting) the rest of the day. They handle up to 3rd grade. Kindergarten and up is 8:30-3:00 daily and then they can go to the daycare room until pickup.

We had our twins in this school for two years ages 3-4 years old and were very happy with it (I have responded on several of the Montessori threads about how much we liked the program). One thing we liked is that it is a very friendly atmosphere. The years we were there, we became friends with many of the families (most of whom live in the general Laurel and surrounding areas). We all did birthday parties together so we saw these families about 10-12 times each year and the kids loved it. Even after we left, we kept in touch with several of the families and we still see them periodically at events, like we often do the Easter Egg roll in Laurel together, we've met one of the families for fireworks on July 4th at Laurel Lakes and similar. We also recommended the school to several families. Two of the families sent their children there and also loved it.

They also have a branch in Silver Spring and one in Olney which might work better for you, but I don't know much about those locations other than the fact that Julia Brown and her two daughters (the managing director and the teaching director) all manage all four of their locations. The two daughters travel around and typically spend 1-2 days per week at each school when possible. The fourth location is in Columbia which is too far north for you.

Old neighbors used to use the Shoe and liked it a lot.

We used Casa Montessori which is not far from Buryonsville.

Also used Silver Spring Learning Center in Wheaton area.

Children in the Shoe has an Olney location. Since you are looking for a place with before/after care, you might as well consider a place that is all day anyway.

I don't have any experience with the Olney location, but we have been happy sending two kids through preschool at a Bethesda location. In fact, I believe that one of my oldest's preschool teachers moved a while back to help open the Olney location, but I am not sure about that.

Hi, we are in Burtonsville and looking for a preschool for our kids who will be three in the fall. We are looking for schools/programs that have before and after care. I have been looking into Columbia Academy in Maple Lawn, but it is full for the fall. We are on the waiting list, but I and am looking for other options within a 15-20 minute drive. I work in DC though, so I don't want to go farther north than Fulton. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
