I’m a current SWS family that lives on the Hill and when I plug Wash Met into WAZE during rush hour it says it takes 22 minutes from my home. (At night it says it takes 15 minutes.)

I plan to stick with the school even if we’re at Wash Met.


You're doing evening rush hour, I assume... which isn't as bad. Morning rush hour is worse and buses are slwoer. Wash Met is nowhere near as bad as the CHML swing space, but 30 minutes is going to be the norm in the morning; bad traffic will be more like 45.

SWS does not make this decision. DCPS does.

It’s annoying from the outside but this has got to be awful for the SWS community. I live across the street from WashMet and from my perspective it’s closing. It’s a done deal unfortunately and it’s a tough pill to swallow. Question is whether that land and building now sits empty or acts as a swing space next year.

The budget does not include swing space renovations as I understand it (the swing space will be used for other schools after SWS's renovation is done - at least that is what the school was told last Spring).


That's what they say. But when they created the budget Washington Met wasn't even a possibility. And that's what has happened before when a school moved into a new swing space location.


There is money set aside for a swing space - either renovating a current building or using trailers. But, you're right, "that's what they say." At this point, they have not been trustworthy at all in this process.
