Insurance does not cover residential treatment centers, unless it’s short term psychiatric stabilization in a hospital or a brief stint of drug rehab.

Are you sure that seems really weird,

Insurance not wanting to pay for something expensive seems weird to you?

My ds was inpatient at a hospital and every day after the first week, the doctors had to call the insurance for authorization for him to stay. Once a child is not an immediate danger to himself or others, insurance won’t pay. Many policies will cover 30 days or so of inpatient rehab.

I think generally you are right. But some policies pay for part of the services.

I found it difficult to find it for my son. Most programs wanted us to have a Medicaid back up. The ones that didn’t were short term and were treatment Oriented with school as a part of the program, not the reason for being there.

Girl or boy?

Know a family who had a tremendous experience with sisters academy in Bend, OR.

Went from frequent suspensions, failing grades and substance abuse to graduating HS and college. Now is happy, well adjusted, working successfully in a professional job, married and starting a family.

I would ask in the special needs forum. I have seen this topic discussed many times there
