Subject: Virginia dealer processing fee
Do not worry about the fee. Worry about the total cost. Know what the car should cost, and talk about an OTD offer. And if they try to put the fee on top of that, leave and find an ethical dealer.
Dealers know what OTD means. They also know how to separate you from your money.
My figuring is the only number that matters is what I pay. I say I want the car for 20K OTD, and I write a check for 20K, that should be it. If they say 20 K for the car, 0 processing...fine. 19K for the car, 1K processing, I do not care. I paid 20K.

When you shop around make sure you ask for the OTD (our the door) pricing. Then when you compare prices, you’ll Be comparing the same thing.

This DMV link says in VA it’s capped at $250.
Yet I routinely see it posted at dealers as $699 or more.
