This might be a dumb question, but how do you distinguish between norovirus and run of the mill stomach virus?

We were hit with it a couple weeks ago - DS threw up for the first time at about noon on Saturday, I was down for the count by noon on Monday. DH never got it, but my sister who came over on Saturday afternoon did on about the same timeline (we initially didn't realize DS was actually sick, we thought it was just a one-off throw up bc he was acting normal). My sister and I were super sick for two days each, and then just rundown for a few days after that. DS seemed to feel better after a couple days but then kept throwing up randomly so we had to keep him home from daycare for a week.

Also, bleach products are the only thing that kills norovirus as others have pointed out.

Usually everyone gets it at nearly the same time in our house but we have it currently in our house and my 10 year old brought it home on Wednesday. Then my 6 year old began vomiting Friday and now by last night all the adults including our babysitter and our 2 year old have it.

Relative brought their child to our family Christmas party, said she was "fine." Within 24 hours half the guests had norovirus. My dh didn't get it, but we were all traveling and sharing the hotel bathroom. Each one of us came down with it after 24 hours.

Last time I started puking at midnight and DS started about two hours after me. My husband got it a full week after we recovered!! Thinking it must have been a re-exposure of something....

The time before my husband started about 10 hours after my son and I somehow managed to never get it.

Within a couple hours of exposure, everyone was sick. It was horrible.

This.

Sick person goes on lockdown in a bedroom with a tv. Sometimes it’s best to put them in the master suite so they can use the bedroom and bathroom. Nobody else goes in.

Everything sprayed with Lysol regularly and wiped with Clorox wipes.

Paper plates, plastic utensils, etc. Trash it rather than bringing it into your kitchen.

Paper towels instead of hand towels. Purell in every bathroom and in the kitchen.

We use a similar approach.

Other kid did get it too but was likely exposed to the same source as first kid.

My youngest had it as an infant and none of us caught it. It really was about containment of vomit and poop. I did all the diaper changes and handled bodily fluids. We lived in the bathroom for two days after returning from the ER. Then that bathroom got sanitized scrupulously.

Last time, I got sick at 3pm and the family started going down within 8 hours... at 12 hours we were all sick.

Our last bout with norovirus broke me.

I almost always get it within 24-48 hours of the first kid. When we’re lucky DH has at least 24 hours before he gets it. We’ve been lucky in that we normally cascade in illness instead of all getting it at once. One time it went kid, me and all within about 18 hours. 2nd kid never got it. We dropped him off at daycare looking like DEATH and told them to wipe him down and change his clothes.

I have PTSD so as soon as someone throws up I start feeling nauseous.

DD brought it home from daycare on a Friday afternoon and was completely better by Sunday morning. She only threw up once, but had diarrhea. DH came down with it on Sunday afternoon. I got it Monday evening. The illness lasted longer in DH and I than it did in DD, who was a little over a year old at the time. There are few things worse than taking care of a toddler while you are that sick.
No amount of hand washing, disinfecting, or being super cautious with diaper changes helped. We were doomed.

If someone in your house brought it home how long did it take for everyone in your house to get sick?
