Your dog is very smart and sweet, Op. Our Golden has done something similar. When the kids were little and playing in the yard all the time, our dog used to pick an out of the way spot in the yard to poop where the kids never played.

One time she had tummy troubles and had to poop while we were away from the house and she pooped on a folded up towel that I had laying on the floor instead of on the carpet.

Your dog is a genius! My dumb dogs would’ve just pooped on the carpet.

Agreed. When my dog needs to poop in the middle of the night, he will push open the bathroom door and poop on the tile floor. So glad he doesn’t do it in the bedroom (on the rug or hardwood floors).

I think it's great OP--very smart, considerate doggie.

Sometimes a person in our house (DS13) will fart and try to blame it on someone else-- our little doggie detective prances over to the real culprit and outs them by sniffing their butt.

I think she is gifted.

I don’t want to be a downer, but that seems like normal dog behavior. She went to the one area that she had access to that she didn’t view as a normal living area and went poop.

Mine sleeps under the covers but runs out at the sound of the chip bag. Also the microwave beeping and fridge opening.

My cat used to do this regularly. On the one hand it was gross but on the other hand it could have been worse.

Good dog!

Our dog is not terribly bright except that she has a genius ability to tell her own stuffed toys from the kids’.

Our dog sleeps in my DD’s room, with the door closed. In the middle of the night the poor dog had to poop. So she went into my DD’s attached bathroom, jumped INTO the tub, did her business, and then jumped back out and went back to sleep. Genius??!

Bonus points because we just put a new area rug into DD’s room a couple weeks ago. I’m so impressed and obliged!
