I just don't understand their need to take these contributions?

I'm Katie's age and like ten years younger than Dorsey, and to me (and I know I sound elitist), but $5,000 or $10,000 is really not a big deal to me...sure, it's a lot of money but not worth making yourself subject to public ridicule.

But both Cristol and Dorsey are furtively trying to solicit these donations and either willing to risk obscene levels of embarrassment to keep the cash (Dorsey) or trying to secretly give it back so they don't blasted (Katie Cristol).

Why are they SO hard up for cash??

After Mr. Dorsey's situation became public, and after Ms. Cristol's own re-election, and long after her appointment to the NVTA, she managed to quietly return this money without attracting attention or comment. How do we account for the difference between Mr. Dorsey's and Ms. Cristol's treatment? What lessons can we learn here?"

Cristol managed to give it back, Dorsey obviously doesn't have 10K to cough up. He already funneled all of his campaign money to his family and spent it on outstanding debts. I'd be happy to get rid of both of them, though.

He's so hard up that he can't even repay the $10,000 donation he took from the Metro Board?

Apparently Katie Cristol did the same but managed to return it furtively? This could be hearsay but I heard that rumor.

Why is the Arlington County Board suddenly so corrupt for these Maryland (Cristol) and New Jersey (Dorsey) random people on it?

Arlington County Board member Christian Dorsey resigned from the Metro board Thursday, a move that apparently cleared him of the obligation to repay a $10,000 campaign donation from Metro’s biggest labor union.

The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, which appoints Metro members from Virginia, announced at midday Thursday that Dorsey (D) had stepped down. His position will be filled by Matthew F. LeTourneau, the Virginia alternate, through February.

The NVTC board will appoint a permanent replacement at its March 5 meeting, commission chair Katie Cristol said in an email to commission members.

“We thank Christian for his exemplary service since he assumed the role as the NVTC principal appointee to WMATA in July 2018,” wrote Cristol, who also serves on the Arlington County Board with Dorsey. “We are particularly grateful for the model he has set as the first regional, rather than local, appointee to the WMATA Board during a time of transition.”
