I’m the previous poster. I asked him to make an “I’m with mom playlist” which he did. He can play that in the car.

Just ignore it, it’s a stage. You can’t really control what music someone listens to. What worked for us- Headphones for him. No rap in the car when I’m driving. Your choice to listen but my choice to not want to hear it.

On the flip side, He will play me songs that he really likes (asks first) and I listen with an open mind, ask questions about the musician, why he likes it etc. I don’t make him feel like he’s a bad person for what he likes. But I do remind him when the lyrics are really rough that xyz not cool. He says he really doesn’t “hear” the lyrics which I’m not sure is good or bad.

1. I remind myself that I listen/have listened to songs with lyrics that I know are not reality and read books about things I’d never think or do in real life.
2. I sparingly make comments or ask to discuss the impact of the violence and misogyny in the songs
3. I always let him listen in the car so I know what he’s listening to
4. If there are songs I like (some that are not super violent or horribly misogynistic) I request them and sing along (to be silly) and generally try to share in his enjoyment

I finally just let it go around 15. And I have a DD!! Sometimes I can’t take it anymore but mostly I ignore. Except on Sunday’s ?
