PP again though I’d also consider commute times too. If you live in SS do RMIB no sense for your kid being on a bus two hours a day.

My DD is a junior in Global Ecology and ADORES the program. It’s a really flexible program in terms of what you can take. Some kids take SMCs math/ AP Physics etc. If you want a happy kid Global is the way to go. I feel like RMIB is better for a kid interested in language and orchestra and PHS for a STEM kid just because GE kids have option junior senior year to be in SMCs electives. Good luck. I was really worried about all the FT’s but PHS teachers know how to work with them and it hasn’t been a problem for my DD.

Not true about full rides at UMD. MOST of the magnets in MCPS go to UMD with a lot of money, but few get the full rides.

GE is more fun - a lot of trips/rigor but not soul sucking hard

IB is VERY hard - but, in general, kids come out with higher and more impressive stats. But, yes, they pay the price.

We had kids in both programs.

Depending on where you live, RM might be easier to get to.

I think OP wants to know about global specifically since that thread is mostly about SMCS...

GE kids need to be very organized because they regularly miss school for field trips. If DD isn’t comfortable making up work, it’s also not the right fit.

The school is trying to up the research component to raise the level of rigor.

wut?

Global teachers quite a few came from other MCPS schools and are not that good.

Poolesville is in the middle of no where. Does your DD want to travel that much?

Student environment, nothing like RM. Base population is quite insular. Conservative leaning in not a good way.

College acceptances are not awesome from there and kids are not as prepared.

Poolesville HS is #1 in MD
They have no problem with college acceptance.
Most magnet kids get full ride at UMCP.

A few kids get full ride. But not most. My kids got it luckily.

The last statement is an exaggeration.

My DD is deciding between RMIB and Poolesville Global and can't decide if she wants to have a happier or rigorous high school life. DD has seen the struggles her sibling, who's at RM, has gone through, but DD still likes the environment at RM better than Poolesville. She likes feeling productive and feels like it would help prepare for college, and of course, loves the location of the school because of the food nearby. The part where she hesitates at is definitely the workload and stress factor - DD doesn't want to "experience college twice." Poolesville Global is more relaxed and I think it would be more fun for DD. There would just be more time for extracurriculars and things like that. DD just feels like it's a shame that she got into all programs and might want to go to Global, which is the program that generally, among her peers, is the one that's kind of like "really, you want to go to Global over RM?" Not saying it's a bad program, it just isn't as intense or geared towards rigor as RMIB. DD also isn't particularly focused on the environment and doesn't know if Global will be fit for her. I would really appreciate any comments about teachers, the student environment, stress, workload, etc.
