Op here: it’s designer in that I got a personal shopper to help me select it from a designer resale site. It’s not from Target. I don’t like heels or go to many events like this (1-2/year) so I don’t really want to get new shoes, but I guess I will.

Honestly, OP, if you don't already have a pair of nice closed-toe black shoes, you need them anyway. I'm shocked you don't already have them, given how versatile they are!

PS - a nude or other neutral shoe (leopard print!) goes well with a black dress. Another great option for a shoe that would be useful well beyond this one event.

Given OPs lack of fashion sense, I'm interested to know what you mean by 'designer' as well as where you purchased. Do you mean Michael Kors seconds that you got at TJ Maxx? That's .... not designer.

Honestly I no longer see the issue with this. I assume you're not talking about reinforced toes, and therefore nothing shows any differently at your toe than on your leg. Totally fine, this is absolutely done, but if you'll be with the sort of people that answer questions around here, I guess you need to play by their rules, or something.

I'm going to a gala in a few weeks. I got a dress. A designer black dress just above the knee. It's fairly plain but with interesting sleeves and beading around the cuffs. I was going to wear it with nude hose, but the shoes I have are open toed. Should I go bare legged or get different shoes?
