If the other family will make your child's party a priority, then maybe. If not, no. Some years back, I did switch my child's party date to accommodate his best friend's schedule. The mom then made other plans at the last minute and so, her kid couldn't come anyway.

This is what your child wants. How is this even a question?

Yes since you haven’t booked.

Yup. We always check with DD’s bestie, because she has another friend whose birthday is close to DD’s. We have changed the date twice, because she had a conflict.

Yes, most kid friend parties aren't on their actual birthday.

No, do something with that child another day.

If you did not already book the venue or send the invitations then sure I would change it. Why not

Not sure if I would once original date set but when my DC younger I always confirmed the 2-3 best buds were available and then set date and then asked who else they wanted.

Not if you already issued the invitations. Otherwise yes.

As long as nothing is already scheduled it’s fine but I schedule things for what is best for us, not for what is best for my five year old’s friend.

This is not a big deal. Change it or don't, but don't make it a big deal.

Yes I have changed it to a week more people could come!

Yes. I always check with my kids' best friends first before scheduling their birthday parties. I don't care about the party being on the same or closest weekend to the actual birthday.

Yes, of course.

I wouldn't change it if it meant losing a deposit or inconveniencing other guests, but if you haven't booked anything or invited other people, of course I would choose a time when my child's best friend could come.

DS’s closest friend from school is unavailable on the weekend of DS’s birthday. They are traveling. I regret even mentioning it to the mom in front of my child. Now my child wants to change the party date to a weekend (not his birthday) to accommodate friend. DH thinks we should keep the original date.

Would you switch the date to the following weekend to accommodate the friend?

I haven’t actually booked anything yet. I was literally about to put the credit card down.
