I have a fat head and the Bose 700 kind of put pressure on the top of my head after about a half hour. Too frustrating for the long haul.

FWIW Bose has been #1 forever, but the new Sonys have topped the Bose in many performance ratings lately.

I have the Sony listed above. Love it. Equally great for noise-cancelling and listening to music. I also appreciate their value on airplanes, as I am a nervous flyer. Makes a big difference. Whichever you go with, check slickdeals for times when you might find a better price.

Yes. All of these types of headphones also come with wires in case you need it to connect to the airplane entertainment. You might need one of those double prong extenders for a couple of planes, but unlikely.

Re: Bose 700. I think you're paying the extra $50 for Alexa voice control and Google Assistant optimization.

If you don't think you would use those features, then I think you could rule them out.

I’m in the market for a new pair of noise canceling headphones. I’m primarily interested in limiting airplane noise but I’d also like to use them for watching movies on the plane or listening to music. I don’t know that I need the best sound enhancing headphones since I’m most concerned about noise blocking, but if someone really loves their Bose 700, I’m open to that price point.

Am also interested in thoughts about in ear versus over the ear. I’ve had over the ear headphones before and I’ve found the style like Beats seem to pinch my ears over time (my head is probably too big). I currently have a pair from Harmon Kardmon that don’t bother me but they are not noise canceling and that bothered me on my last flight.

Any recommendations?
