My thoughts exactly!! Jeez, parents need to take a step back and find their own happiness and stop living through their kids.

Look at the rosters on college teams, both male and female and any sport. Then go back 4 years to their freshmen class. Maybe 7 freshmen came in 3 remain. injury, burnout, better players came in decided to focus on academics.

Most seniors in US college soccer are so burnt out after the abuse they took in 4 years of college soccer they can't wait to get away from the sport and are not looking to extend their career at all.

I don't know if they are all delusional. I know a few personally who were aware of their limitations, but they made enough to live off of and just loved the game so much, they wanted to keep going. They said it was like living a dream. And I know people like that from soccer, football, tennis, and golf. I kind of admire them for giving some years to living their dream. They all knew it had to end and after a few years, they all went on to be successful at other things. It's not for everyone, but I don't think it's a bad decision when it's an informed one.

The difference is there is real money to be made in the lower leagues in Europe for the men. Not the case for the women.

Pretty quick math... identify how many D1 players, how many US born players on professional rosters. Could also identify how many USMNT players are not D1 players. Or, how many U23/U20/etc USMNT players are in UEFA or CONEMBOL. That could help looking at your question a few different ways.

Not many. I'd bet that barley half of D1 soccer players even play all four years before they hang it up.

Eventually reality sets in and kids start to focus on their studies and their careers. If they can still fit soccer in great but if they can't then it gets dropped. Priorities simply shift and that is ok.

I'll bet though that while not pursing playing, many kids who played D1 or college at all at some point likely look into coaching later on, if not as a side gig ultimately for their kids when the time comes.
