OP, I'll answer your question. People need to learn self motivation. If MCPS pushed everyone hard, people would not develop intrinsic motivation which is more important to long term success than actual skill. You should thank them.

I’m a senior in MCPS. I took 12 APs. I’m a three season athlete. I got in ED to my dream school (top 20...) with playing the college admissions “game”. I didn’t push myself to my limits.
