Same. My dog’s death was beyond devastating. Dad’s was sad, but he was suffering, and we weren’t that close.

I cry when talking about our beloved dog we had to let go. She was very sick. She was my daily companion and slept with DH and me. I also cry when I talk or think about my mom who died recently. I loved them both. I only cried one time when my young cousin died. I rarely saw her. You are normal and I’m sorry about your sweet cat.

No, I still can shed a tear for our kitty that died in 2017. Nothing wrong with that.

It's normal ... for distant cousins and aunt.

It really isn't messed up. Some people push their emotions down in order to get through the public events surrounding a loved ones death. It is what I do. But I cry in private. Just because you didn't see him cry over his dad, does not mean that he didn't cry.

Nope. He didn't cry. I lived with him at the time, I asked him, and I double-checked with my mom. Dude is cold as ice.

It’s natural to more acutely feel the absence of something/someone who is an intimate part of your daily life than someone distant.

He was around you all the time, you live in his space. You viscerally feel that absence.

That doesn’t mean that you think his life was more valuable than your relatives, so don’t feel bad about it.

It's completely normal to have reactions as intense as with a deceased human loved one, OP--this is well-known and you should feel okay to grieve.

Is this bad? Our cat just died and I'm destroyed. We raised him since he was a kitten, and he died suddenly from heart failure without any warning signs at all. He had the best personality ever, and loved us a ton...I could tell. Is it horrible to admit I'm more torn up over this than I have been before over some deaths in the family from distant cousins, aunts, some uncles etc?
