Am I the only one horrified that anyone would NOT be nice to a child???

I don't criticize any other kids, even to myself, anymore. It failed without exception that everything I hated about another child (my niece, a team mate, etc.) eventually came to pass with my own.

I try to be kind to other people, adults and children alike, because it’s the right thing to do as a human being.

I tend to think this way. Not karma, more that I have memories of being a little kid, needing help, and getting it. I’m in my 40’s now. My oldest child is 12. When I was younger, I used to worry about upsetting their parents, but now I don’t really care how their parents feel about it. You can go around feeling mad the rest of your life because you think I squashed your child’s independence or put her on playground equipment she wasn’t ready for when I helped your daughter get on the slide. You have to live with yourself and your anger, and that sucks. I’m going to smile and wave at your daughter going down the slide, and that’s awesome.

No. Some kids are brats, sometimes I'm tired, sometimes I just don't care.

I’m in Bethesda and would be grateful if you helped my child back up.

OP, I try to be pleasant to all kids or else ignore them if they don’t need anything from me. I’m not mean to other children. I don’t think karma comes into it for me.

When I’m in this area I am polite but do not help to the extent I would otherwise. For example if a kid falls or needs help reaching something and I am closest, I ask if they are ok, but I never touch someone else’s kid. Even if a kid falls arbor the playground, I let the nanny or parent deal with it because I know people do not want strangers to help pick their kids up. I realize this might vary by neighborhood but it’s certainly true in Arlington and Vienna in my experience.

When I am back in my hometown I am friendlier.

Do I yes, do most, no.

Like the saying goes “it takes a village”. This means if we all lookout for each other’s kids then everyone will be better off.

Op, do you mean like if you see a kid trying to reach a book at the library and they are struggling, you will pull the book out and hand it to them? Yes, I try to be nice to other people’s kids.

I don't totally understand your question, but "being nice" to someone does not always mean "helping someone." I don't know the context in which you tried to help someone else's kid, but sometimes my kid needs to learn how to do something independently, even if it looks like he's struggling at first and I'm being "mean" by not helping.

No most people don’t think the way you do

I always do my best to be nice to everyone's kids no matter what. Help them if I see they need anything. do all parents think like that? like karma thinking if someone does bad to one child that will happen to their child also somewhere down the road?
