Our preschool asked about this, although not in the application. I think it was in the student profile after we were accepted. Seems a little weird in the app.

Like others say, it's about understanding how much sleep and how well they sleep, as well as what the home life and approach is.

We put the TV on and eventually he falls asleep on the couch. Super easy to get down.

That would make more sense, but no, morning only. I suspect PPs are right, they just want to make sure we prioritize sleep, book reading, etc. But I can’t imagine a parent would report “oh, we have no routine at all!” Or “we have to rock our 3 year old to sleep and then crawl out of the room once pass out”. And if they did say that, would the school reject them them? I just find it odd. I guess it paints a picture of what they expect at home.

My child’s teacher told me she’s had parents tell her they don’t have a routine since you know...”kids”.

Time and amount of sleep
The parents aware of the importance of reading
A calm home life probably means the child is better tempered

Beyond that - I wouldn't play their game. Beyond that, I wouldn't be impressed that the school and I had much in common.

They want to know if your child is usually getting adequate sleep and is on a routine that will work well in group care. If a child goes to bed at all different hours or is aloud to crash where they may, then they may not be an ideal fit for structured care.

If your child is still breastfed or rocked to sleep it may create additional challenges.

You will be fine, as most families are.

We are applying for a preschool (not in DC), and the application asks you to describe child’s bedtime routine. I found that a bit ... strange? Wondering what they are looking for, and if anyone has seen this on an application. Ours is a pretty typical bath, pjs and tooth brushing, book reading and into bed.... It’s an Emilia Reggio school, if that matters.
