OP is kidding herself if she thinks that visiting a school more than once where you are a reach applicant is going to make any difference.

If you can your again, then will it hurt anything? It's one thing if the school is in Hawaii but if it's relatively easy to get too and doesn't break your budget then go ahead and set up another tour. See if she can sit in on a class. See if they can set her up with someone from our area for a tour. Won't hurt to make sure they know it's the first choice. Plus, she could discover on a second visit that it's not the right fit.

But that level of experience is (like sleepovers), is usually offered to admitted students. Worthwhile, but at that point you are not trying to impress them

I like the idea of sitting in on a class. My DD really enjoyed this experience at two different colleges.

For DS, we did a basic tour in his sophomore year that got him interested. Now as a junior he's attended an info session at his HS and plans to go to an open house in the Spring and we'll try to set up a meeting w/ someone from his preferred major during that trip. Basically wanting to be sure this is #1 so he can decide if he wants to ED.

I think you should tour again to see if she likes it as well now. My friend took her kid back to a top choice and they both disliked it the second time.

Mine did a general info session and tour. He also spoke to the regional admissions rep at his school's college fair. She emailed him often asking questions and invited him to a session based on his intended major/minor that the department deans hosted. He RSVP'd to her email invite, registered and did go. He's a junior. He still gets emails but just opens and replies with a general "thanks for info". Still a while to go but if he's admitted, he'll go to admitted students day.

It took him a while to figure out the spam thing.

Your daughter should email her regional rep and ask if there is an upcoming dean of specific school session or an opportunity to tour a specific department and speak to the dean, sit in on a class.

Pp here - I will say that the school is about a 3 hour drive from our house. If we had to fly, she would not have visited as much. Our first visit was an open house with a tour and only dd and I attended. Dh could not attend the visit when she went to a class. He wanted to see the school before she agreed to apply ED so that is why she went back for an on campus interview as opposed to doing it when the rep visited our hometown. So I’ve actually been on two tours (bc I toured again with dh while dd interviewed).

Just to show interest? No. Make sure she goes to any info sessions that the local admissions rep has at her high school, and have her follow up with an email or two.

No. You can do an interview or write to a faculty member who shares her interests. Or ask for the name of a student in her major.

No reason to do a second tour. They would find it odd I think, and you would learn nothing new.

My DD really has her hopes set on one specific school. It is not an ivy. I would describe it as moderately competitive (and will be a reach for my DD) for admission. We toured once. Should we do another tour to let them know she really wants to go there?
