Both? I have 2 boys. I would love to have her be a princess! Maybe it is because she has brothers but she just isn’t interested in princesses or baby dolls and many other girly things.

She has dresses but it is very hard to get her to wear one.

My friend recently gave me a beautiful flower girl dress. I have no use for it but it is a very pretty dress.

Ugh I know I’m totally overthinking this.

Yes, put her in a regular dress. If you want her to resemble a princess, buy her a cheap crown at party city.

She likes unicorns. Maybe I will put her in a dress and a unicorn headband. She can be princess twilight sparkle I think she is from my little pony.

Perfect!

Also, a tutu is fine.

I see lots of twirling at princess parties - the tulle in the princess dresses seems like the most important part.

Do not buy a princess dress or tell her she has to dress like a princess. Do tell her there will probably be a lot of other kids wearing princess dresses and ask, does she want to wear a dress or anything fancy or special? Fancy or special to her may mean a cape, crown, headband, favorite shirt or shoes, tutu, headband. That's fine.

Ask her. If she wants to wear a princess dress, borrow one. It sounds like she has plenty of friends who likely have more than one. If she wants to wear the flower girl dress, and maybe a unicorn headband, do that. If she wants to go in her regular clothes do that. I probably wouldn't do a completely different unrelated costume (e.g. firefighter), but I think there are lots of options.

Ask her what type of princess she would like to be, if she could be any type of princess in the whole world?

A cat princess? Owl princess? Princess Wonder woman?
One of her favorite characters pretending to.be a princess?

I'd encourage a fun costume of whatever ilk if she likes costumes, but I think it's great for your kid to just do her own thing.

She can dress however she likes. Maybe she is interested in dressing as a warrior princess (Mulan-like) or some other trope-inverting one.

It's not bad at all. Let her know that she may be dressed differently than some of the other girls and make sure she is ok with that, then go to the party.

Preschool DD is not interested in princesses at all. Her classmates are though. She got invited to a party where princess dresses are encouraged.

How bad will it be if she shows up in normal clothes?

Do I have to go buy a princess dress for this?
