I do not see where anyone suggested jail. I think many want pot smokers to do it at home or hidden away from others. Kind like how cigarette smokers were driven away from public spaces.


So it's a question of enforcing current law. Not rolling back current law.

How is smoking pot better than vaping?! You’re still putting chemicals is your lungs. And please don’t reply that pot is natural because it isn’t regulated so you have zero idea of what is in it.


We KNOW that vaping is poison. We also know that the vast majority of quality flower in the US these days is nothing but cannabis. Laced cannabis is out there, but it is incredibly rare.

Are you an actual Wilson parent and did you talk to an actual Wilson teacher or are you a troll?

Marijuana was widely available when I was in High School 30 years ago and lots of people used it so I'm skeptical there is a big change - I have a 9th grader at Wilson and in discussing this with other parents most of us agree that in our UMC demographic there is way less pot smoking (and drinking) going on than when we were in high school. Or maybe our kids are somehow hiding it better but I'm skeptical.

In any case please let us know where it is for sale all around the school -the way this post is written I suspect it was written by a private school parent from MD freaked out by what they see out the window of their Lexus when they drive through to and from dropping their kid at GDS or SFS or StA - I walk with my ES student through Tenley twice a day and don't ever recall smelling marijuana - my biggest concern is all the littering from people eating at Chic-fil-a.

It was like this at Stuyvesant HS in New York in the 90s. At least a dozen dealers with weed on them in the school every day.

The issue is not legalization, it's that teenagers want to get high.

The DC law was done through a ballot initiative, not through the legislative process. And it is beyond poorly constructed.

You can use it. But you can’t legally sell it (what?). Since it isn’t legally sold, no sales taxes are collected to help deal with the side effects.

I don’t want people in jail for using or selling weed. I would prefer people go to a store and buy it, with regulations put on those vendors. It won’t put every street or student dealer out of business but I do think it would help.

Op a few years ago when the marijuana legalization issue was being debated in dc, I remember meeting an advocate on the street who was collecting signatures. I asked him this very question- what will this do to kids? He literally told me he didn’t care- this was for and about adults who like to smoke- people like him- and he didn’t care what impact it had on impressionable teens.

Made me wonder- what did we do at the time to fight back against thus? Nothing of course. Now we have a problem and we’re surprised?
