You're surprised the home of the capital of the confederacy.... celebrates its Confederate heritage?

You’re an idiot if you are unfamiliar with how non-southern northern Virginia is.

Lived in NoVA my whole adult life and I've never heard of it. Must be one of those still-on-the-books things that no one knows about and doesn't have any bearing on anything.

It's no longer a state holiday, but for years we had lee-jackson-king day because it was the only way the hold outs would have a King holiday from 1984 til 2000.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee%E2%80%93Jackson%E2%80%93King_Day. 1984-2004

Lee-jackson day is still an official VA state holiday, but I'm not sure people actually get the day off anymore.

Links or it's not true? LoL. Try "the google" or ask the boys tonight when they get back from the still.

Enjoy your weekend in Richmond. Seems like that will be on par with Charlottesville a couple years ago.

Proudly staying north of the Potomac. And remember this, the North won. Sorry to rub that in.

Are you still mad you couldn't find anything in Arlington or Falls Church that fit your budget?

1983 was nearly 40 years ago. 2000 was 20 years ago. I’m assuming you’re fairly old, but really, 20 years ago is ancient history, politically speaking.

I think this might change rather shortly given current politics.

OP, we’re all on your side, there’s no need to be crazy.

+1

The freakin' ERA (!) just passed the general assembly today - only 1 week after the Ds took over. We have at least a whole year to make progress - give it time.

The good 'ole boys time is coming to an end.

Well, VA finally ratified the ERA, so don't give up hope.

Yea, been here 6 years and never heard of it. I don’t think it’s something to worry about.

Many Virginia cities specifically decline to recognize Lee-Jackson Day. But way to indulge stereotypes, OP, you sound very informed and open-minded.

I cannot believe Virginia celebrates "Lee-Jackson" day as an official holiday. Yet another reason to not go near this state and certainly never live there. I always thought Virginian's saying the south will rise again was a joke or overstatement. Wow, was I wrong about that. So much better north of the Potomac.
