You also meet some of the older kids who are in the program, who volunteer to help out. It’s really a good at to start getting familiar with the media software and equipment and meet some people. I would definitely sign your kid up if you are able. The summer homework packet might be harder to complete if you don’t go, too.

It was a good warm-up experience with the school. The media teachers run the program, and it is an opportunity to meet some of the students and work on a group project. My daughter did not like the idea of summer school but really enjoyed making the movie trailer in the end. It didn’t help that I called it “The institute,” sounding straight out of Mr. Benedict’s Society.

If you can swing it, definitely do it! Both my Eastern Humanities kids did it and loved it. Both times I was able to find a carpool to help ease the pain in the butt factor. Email Mr. Kerwin -- he sent out a spreadsheet of parent info for each session so we could find our own carpools.

It's only half day. You have to be able to drop-off and pickup your kids in the middle of the day. It's a great social opportunity to know some kids before going to the school. And their final product is surprisingly good.

The cost was $165 and there were sessions ranging from June to early August, I believe.

There was a cost for the program, and transportation is not provided. Only a 1/2 day program, but our kid liked it. They get to use the equipment, get to know the building, and meet some of the other kids who will be going into the magnet.

There were several weeks to choose from, so you can pick the one that fits best.
