You can go to gofundme and see who is in real need there and donate the money to someone with a real urgent need. Also, st. Jude’s hospital is a great place.

globally- reproductive health programs- hundreds of millions of women around the world still have no access to contraception, something we take for granted. It's truly life-changing for these women.

Regarding people posting about donations to universities/their own private schools- I think the amount of money that gets donated to universities is atrocious and a true shame. That money could be used for so many other good things, instead people want their name on XYZ building or institute that may or may not have an impact. Exception is if the money is going directly for free tuition for students.

If you have health problems, why wouldn’t you keep it for down the line? This seems odd.

It went $10k to an alma matter, $30k to our kids school $10k to a special program I went on In high school that changed my life, $10k to a Ronald McDonald house type program $5k to religious affiliated and $5k other.

Personally, i would donate it to a local non-profit like CASA de Maryland which makes a real difference in the community and the lives of immigrants in the state. Check them out to see if it’s a cause that speaks to you.

Pay daycare expenses for a few lower middle-class single parents! This would have drastically improved my life years ago. It would keep me up at night.

I would probably donate it to 10 families of children dealing with serious illnesses like cancer, that it could give them some more flexibility in their lives. Many run out of money with medical expenses.

I just read the thread about the amount of money that would make a difference run your life. And I realized how DH and I are very fortunate; we recently I inherited about $100k and honestly it doesn’t change things for us (we have other (health) problems that money can’t solve so not trying to brag here.
What this thread made me realize though is that this money could make a real difference elsewhere. So I would like to ask, if you had $100k (or $25k) where would you donate it to make a real difference in the world or at least in a local community?
