I also love MHC - have you read any of her daughter Carol Higgins Clark or firmer daughter-in-Law Mary Jane Clark’s books? They have some similarities.

Sure Grafton is great. A much better writer than MHC. My favorite mystery writer is Dorothy Sayers—so good! But they are British and written in the 1920s-30s so a different experience.

Stuck in bed with a UTI? If you can't get away with Dan Brown now, when can you?

How about Sue Grafton?

She wrote some good mysteries - but all the endings jump the shark.

However I would much rather read a great book w/a bad ending vs. the opposite.

Your choice.

I used to love Mary Higgins Clark! Back “in the day.”

Sorry about your UTI. I hope it’s being treated

All of her heroines are rich rich rich and live in swanky Jersey suburbs.

I just started reading her recently because there are a lot of her books in the reading room where I work. I like a mystery so I end up finishing the books, but she is a terrible writer. Money over matter for publishers, I guess.

Yes, those are "good" ones! It's like Alafair helps MHC join the modern world just a little bit.

So I'm sick with a raging UTI and have been in bed all day with a heated pad. (Anyone else get UTIs? They suck.) Anyway, I rediscovered Mary Higgins Clark books. They're so dated and cheeseball, but also have a good NYC vibe and fun plot twists, especially if you're into rich ladies in peril. Anyone else read these, and could you recommend other similar books?

Bonus points if you could also tell me your reassuring or funny UTI tales of woe.
