not hysterical. its social media so pretty much the whole school has seen it. it isnt just about the boy at this point

the poor daughter will have to deal with this when she goes back. I would also file bully report.

Schools take cyberbullying really seriously, since it’s led to suicides, and OP said the content was very inappropriate.

Do you know the parents at all? That would make a difference to me. If I knew they would over react or under react, I wouldn’t approach them. But if they would be glad to know and handle it appropriately, I would.

I'd want to know. Tell the parents about it, and also tell them you were impressed with his quick action and apology. They still need the info so they can talk to him about never doing such a thing again.

He is 14, he apologized to you, he took it down. Move on with your life.

Some parents are nuts and will retaliate and make excuses for their kid. I think you have already handled it so I’d stop while you are ahead. Nothing his parents can do will compare to him actually being called out by you!! Parents tell their kids “other people read what you post and will judge you for it.” You just proved that to home directly.

As a parent of a teen, I would like to know as I am sure no matter how much I monitor, I am missing 80% of it.

A similar thing happened to me and the boy refused to take it down so I said OK I’m gonna call your mom and let her deal with it. Then he took it down. Hes actually a really nice boy, his mother would’ve freaked out. In hindsight I’m glad I didn’t call her.

I guess you did the right thing by not contacting the parents. Give him a chance to correct his own behavior.

I was looking at my daughter's snap account and found some extremely inappropriate comments about her posted by a boy at her school. He did not make the comments himself, but did post them on his story. I immediately contacted the boy and asked him to take them down. He took them down and apologized right away. I think he's just a 14 YO boy being a complete idiot. BUT, should I contact his parents and let them know what he's been posting? I know as a parent, I would want to know so that I can course correct. Or should I just let it go? My D is out of town without her phone, so she knows anything about this yet. I plan to have a conversation with her about this so she is aware of what happened and use it as a teaching moment.
