Ombudsman is your best bet but if you can change facilities do.

Bumping this up. Does anyone have an eldercare attorney recommendation in VA for issues with assisted living facility. TIA.

If you’re willing to pay by the hour go hire a lawyer. If you’re not, very few of us can take this, especially considering you aren’t even sure you want to sue.

The Fairfax ombudsman has been helpful for us, and I also have used a geriatric advocate. You can file state complaints with Medicate, and I also called Adult Protective Services.

I would think contacting the ombudsman and/or state licensing would bring attention to ongoing issues the fastest, besides possibly creating a paper trail if you do consider litigation.

OP specifically referred to framing a complaint with suing only a possibility.

Not as many as you think. They make money on severity of damages. So it has to be really bad. And if that were the case, the state would be involved. If it’s a nursing home I’d call the omsbudsman and/or the state.

Is this a nursing home (that takes medicare and Medicaid) or assisted living? The way to complain will differ depending on the facility.

My sister contacted the ombudsman when there were concerns about our mom's care in a nursing home. They uncovered a number of violations. Nursing homes have to post information about the LTC ombudsman's office and how to contact.

They don’t handle nursing home issues. You go through the state licensing board but they don’t do much.

Have you tried the ombudsman.

Without getting into the details, I’m wondering if anyone has advice or recommendations on an attorney to help walk me through and prepare a complaint to state regulators, and possibly sue, a long term care facility in VA.
