Check to see if your healthcare has online consultations with a doctor. A friend got antibiotics for her daughter's pink eye on a Sunday. I had a rapidly spreading rash around a bug bite (infected) on a Saturday night and got antibiotics. Super convenient for an easily diagnosed problem.

Take him and get some drops, especially if you plan on visiting (or having people visit you) during the holidays. He’s five - he will spread this.

I would take him so I would know he was not contagious anymore 24 hours after starting meds.
JUst tell him not to touch anything and sanitize hands when you leave.

Just leave it. My doctor told me that in almost all cases pinkeye clears up without medication.
