Subject: Apple Watch... what do I do with it?
Go to the class at the apple store! Seriously, it is well worth an hour of your time. You will learn a lot there.
DH gave me one a few years ago and I thought it was total overkill. I love it and if it broke, I would hop in the car and buy a new one immediately. (budget be damned!)
You will learn to dictate your texts. I think this is very handy when I walk to dog. Reminders, weather, heart rate while you exercise, steps -- so many uses!

That’s cool and I wish I knew this during Christmas holiday photos!

I’ve had my Apple Watch for years and never used it this way. Now I will charge it up. It’s a first generation so who knows what I can actually do vs the newer models. Thanks pps for posting how you use it.

Map directions when walking in urban areas where you can't walk with eyes on phone.
Also give driving directions if your car does not have that infrastructure.

If you’re into sports I like the Sports Alerts app. You can set a favorite team and in some of the faces have it as a main complication.
I also like having the current weather handy—I’m an outdoor runner year round and I obsess over the weather.

OP, here... well, I just figured out how to play music off it on our wireless speakers without needing to find my phone, so that’s a plus. I guess there will be a steep learning curve to see what it can do!

Best feature imo is the activity tracker. Closing all circles, seeing how much calories each different activities can burn. Reminders to stand, to breathe (if you’re into that thing), getting texts and calls on the watch. Ability to respond to a text talking into the watch. Siri commands. I sometimes hardly ever look at the phone. I modified watch face to be able to pull the heartbeat app with one touch. And Shazam app. I wear my watch all the time.

Notifications on the Apple Watch save the hassle of looking at your phone, which in many circumstances is inappropriate (i.e. in a movie, in a meeting, etc). Can be very helpful as a screener for unimportant messages.
Call handoff from phone to watch is helpful sometimes when phone is in other room and important call.
Timers are good and alarms.
Activity tracker will become as addictive as the fitbit. You can integrate Apple Watch into Loseit and Myfitnesspal if using it for dieting.

Having an Apple Watch keeps you from having to fish around in your purse for you phone or carry you phone around all the time. You can send/receive texts and emails. On mine you can answer phone calls but I’m not sure all ha e that function.
You can also use the watch to find you phone.
I use the timer all the time in the kitchen.
You can keep the ringer off on your phone and just set the watch to tap you when you get a call or an alarm goes off.
Think of the watch as an extension of your phone.

DH treated me to an Apple Watch for Christmas, as my beloved Fitbit had died (long story as to why I got it early).
I’m really excited and grateful.. but not sure what to actually DO with it? I have an iPad, iPhone...and this feels (wonderfully) excessive for what it is that I “need”, which was really a Cheap step and calorie counter, plus telling the time.
What are your fsvourite tools /uses for your watch? I’ve already added the Sleep ++ app, as that is something I would like to monitor.
