Dupont neighborhood exploring. Phillips collection, kramerbooks, look at the fountain, go in some hotels to look at Christmas decorations.

The National Portrait Gallery is right by Gallery Place. The National Building Museum is across from Judiciary Square but it's closed for renovations currently.

Thanks. This is OP and we actually live near the Brookland station so a lot of new idea for me!

Too many for Wilson pool? In the right area, but you might not want to take a bunch of kids if it's just you.

Libraries at Tenleytown or Cleveland Park

Hike embassy row and do a scavenger hunt for flags (we take the train to Dupont, jump on a bus along Mass for as far as we want to walk, then walk back and finish up with hot chocolate at Pain Quotidienne.

Hazen Trail -- a couple of blocks from Cleveland Park metro, about a half mile down through a valley to Rock Creek. The path is fun -- it crosses the stream a few times with stepping stones. About a mile round trip down to Rock Creek and back from Connecticut Ave.

National Geographic museum has an exhibit about Jane Goodall. Tix aren't free, though.

Should have noted, an afternoon at the zoo already planned.
