OP here. We are both STD free. I’m just worried about getting pregnant, ah IUD or both control isn’t 100% effective. I don’t want to get pregnant, but I don’t want my boyfriend ( and possible future husband) to be dissatisfied with our sex life.

Nothing is 100% but abstinence. Not even condoms + IUD.

I've personally known 3 people to get pregnant on IUDs:
1) Lost a fallopian tube
2) Miscarried when the IUD was removed
3) Carried to term

It happens, I personally wouldn't trust it. I trust the pill with 24 days on pill more than an IUD. I've also had an accidental pregnancy and am extremely fertile so I don't mess around with the averages.

People get pregnant even with IUDs. A condom or some other barrier is a good backup. OP is smart to protect herself. It’s only been six months. A whoops baby is for life and even when couples agree on an abortion, there’s often emotional fall out and hidden resentments that later surface.

I think both an IUD and condoms is a bit of an overkill. I understand using condoms if you're just hooking up and not really sure if he is sleeping with anyone else. But if you are both committed I don't really see a reason to use both.

Only 6 months?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 6 months. We are both 30's and very serious. We are both dating for marriage and feel it's headed in that direction. I have an IUD and we have been using condoms, but my boyfriend wants to stop using them. I've had times in previous relationships where we didn't use them, but I've almost always used condoms. We are both committed and monogamous, but the worry is an unplanned pregnancy. We both want children but we are not ready for that next step. I don't see kids until another 3-5 years. I want to be married before having children. When did you stop using condoms with a new partner?
