I don’t think this has anything to do with working mom guilt, it all just goes really fast. My oldest is 17 and my youngest is 2 and I feel like this all the time. It feels like my 17 year old was just a baby and now he’s nearly an adult so I know I’ll feel the same way when he’s 40. Our 14 year old dog passed away recently and it was so hard, he grew up with every kid, it felt like he was just a puppy.

I'm a SAHM and I think about this all the time, too. The time when children are in your house is such a small portion of your overall life. Not even a quarter, probably. The time when they're small and like you and want to be around you is even shorter. It makes me tear up all the time!! It's such a happy time and it goes by so fast.

I feel this way a lot and my kids are in elementary school. I think I need therapy - seriously.

I know what you mean! I do try to enjoy the moments and think lovingly of my kids even as I am thinking, "What is he THINKING??" but yes, they will not be our babies forever. I know there will be things to cherish about them at all ages, but I find something particularly sweet about these elementary-school years. Wahh, now I'm teary, too!

I don’t think it’s working mom guilt. It’s just remembering it goes by quickly.

Op, I had a similar moment a few weeks ago. I was out at dinner with my toddler (it was just me and him) and we were talking about his day and dinner, typical toddler stuff. The table across from us was four high school seniors talking about where they were going to college, what they were worried about, how they were going to decide what school to go to. And it hit me, that will be him in a few years, before I know it, he will be talking about college and deciding where to go. I had some tears.

Don't worry, it goes really slowly once they hit 10 or 11.

Print out your post and stick in your desk drawer to pull out on one of those really bad days when nothing is going right and your kids are being a pain. The years really do fly by.

Awe, op. I think it’s nice to have this realization every once in a while. It helps to keep things in perspective and what your priorities should be.

Read an extra few minutes tonight with your kids.

My best friend turns 40 today and her mom posted a simple but beautiful tribute on Facebook. She had tons of pictures of my friend as a baby and growing up and man, it just made me realize how fast it all goes and that this will be all of us sooner than we would like. We are all so in the nitty gritty now but time flies and one day they will be grown. I miss my babies already... and they technically are still babies. Remind me never to wish time would move faster again.
