Applying for 6th grade for the lottery is really hard. Most charters that start at middle school start in 5th grade. The # of 6th grade slots are really slim

Live in Arlington. It has a somewhat urban feel and has great schools.

DC public schools do not provide transportation; your child does receive a Smartrip card that entitles them to unlimited free rides on the Metrobus or the Metrorail.

If you do not like the school you are in-boundary for (IB for short) you can enter the lottery to see if you get a slot at another DCPS or a charter school.

Is this because you work in SW? I would check out being further in Virginia on the orange/blue lines. The schools are better out there.

Do you currently live in an urban area of the country? If not, I think SW Middle School would not be the best match for your family.

Unless the student has special needs and is bussed to their assigned school or a student goes to a charter where transportation is arranged through the parents or the school, there is no DCPS school transportation. No school busses in DC.

There are just not a lot of schools in that area other than Jefferson. Are you comfortable sending her on the metro or city bus?
