Ask before buying what you consider an experience gift. I don’t consider them gifts and it may be somewhere we have no interest in. I’d get summer clothes for next summer. A 14 month old does not need a swaddle blanket.

If they have a small place I assume they have a small kitchen and might not want additional feeding items.

How about tickets to the aquarium? $60 for all of them if they only have the 1 child.

Little kids won't remember those visits, but they still like looking at everything, and it's enough of a cost that I would have hesitated when my dd was that young.

Have a meal from their favorite pre-kids restaurant delivered. Call the restaurant and ask them which delivery service they work with.

This is us, too. I'd love to get some high quality baby clothes that I'm reluctant to splurge on, like a merino wool onesie and pants from polarn o pyret, for example. Or something that gets used up - we can never have too much sidewalk chalk!

Probably not the best for this year and $20 over price range but a membership to the children’s creativity museum would be awesome - would get them free admission. Children under 2 are free though. Just sharing if good for another year or birthday/Christmas combined gift next year

When people have asked, I've suggested clothes or small stroller/diaper-bag size toys. Clothes can easily be handed down once outgrown and take up limited space. Smaller toys are nice for on-the-go.

They're probably already past this point, but we also love our Inglesina Fast clip-on chair. Just use as our daily highchair.

Maybe a children's museum or playspace membership? Ways to get out of a (small) house are always nice.

Or ask the parents and if they say nothing at all, respect that.

Tickets to an indoor play space? Photo shoot? Gift card (so at least they can buy what they need, even if they put it toward diapers)?

Good friends of ours live in a very small apartment in SF. They have a 14 month old. I visited a few months ago, and the place is jammed with stuff and junk. They will move in the next couple years. But in the mean time, i'd like to send the baby a gift for xmas - just as a nice friend kind of thing to do. Not because they need anything.

But i hate to add more crap to their very filled up apartment. They have lots of friends, so i know everyone else is doing this too - so they've got lots of the typical "small space" gifts already: aden & anais blankets, and tons of books, etc etc.

Any brilliant ideas for something to send to them that won't just take up space? I'm trying to think of "experience" gifts - but hard to do for a 1 year old
