Sadly, as a middle school teacher, I can confirm it happens. However, it is rare and typically involves girls with a past history of abuse. 16-17 with a BF is still the typical first time. Younger and with multiple partners is a red flag.

So many girls of all of our generations were slut shamed when they are were actually victims of sexual assault.

Sometimes gossip is true. It’s still gossip, but it is still the truth. If it’s painting a large group of girls as promiscuous, it’s probably untrue. If there’s consistent rumors about just one girl, it might be worth alerting the counselor. Unfortunately, there are girls who are in a bad situation and using sex to try to survive physically or emotionally. My cousin was like that. She had a really horrific decade starting at 13. This isn’t about girls making a decision about their bodies. It’s about exploitation and health risks.

OP needs to think about who is telling her about these kids. It is really slimy to gossip about teenagers. No, teens are not having multiple partners at 15. in fact, teens are having less sex than they did in prior generations.

OP, how would you feel if people were gossiping about YOUR kids when they are teens? Be a better person than this.

Not typical at all. But not unheard of either. It’s out of the norm and not what is expected.

My 13 yr old had a “boyfriend” who was sending her explicit text messages. Not a leap to think that 2 years later sex would be involved. This is a very vulnerable age.
