We didn't allow guns (not Nerf, not water guns, no guns period). When DS was given Nerf guns, we exchanged them for a gift of his choice (if with a gift receipt) or donated (and we still allowed a gift of his choice, paid for by us). I would never give a gun and a gift, and am shocked others think this is ok

At 13 my kid was buying his friends presents, and asking them what they wanted. If my kid bought someone a nerf gun, it would be because that's what the kid wanted. Given that your kid chose a birthday party that involved shooting people, it would seem that he's interested in guns too.

If the venue was at a laser tag place, I would assume nerf gun was a completely fine gift.

I thought the no guns thing was more for kids 8 and under?

People still object to nerf guns at your DC's age? Most people give up on that way before the tween and teen stages.

If it was nerf or bb then you need to lighten up.

I would interpret a laser tag birthday party as permission to receive a nerf gun as a gift.

If you're opposed to playing with you guns, then how does the laser tag party work?

Didn't you just your kid's party at a laser tag venue? Because I'm having trouble under how you can host a party dedicated to guns and shooting (ok, "zapping") and then get worked up about someone giving your child a shooting/zapping-related item.

Are we talking firearms, pellet guns, paintball guns or nerf guns? If you are having a conniption over nerf guns for a teenager, you need to unclench a little.

Because people don't know how to say no to their kids and want to be the cool parents. We always get one per birthday. Gets donated.
