You do realize that college grads working at non profits in this area earn that, right? OP I pay $15/hourly for slightly less than ten hours/week. I had zero problems locating someone on care.com. She cooks and she’s not even my regular twice monthly cleaner.
1. $50K a year in 2020 is not a huge amount of money - esp in the NoVa area.
2. The assumption that a house cleaner is working 40 hours a week to cover a full salary is just that: an assumption.
3. Even if the housekeeper works 60 hours a week at that rate, it is with different clients; OP is not hiring the housekeeper full time.
4. IF I were a house keeper, i would hate to think that I would not be allowed to make more than $50K a year.
The comparison of a $50K salary qualifying a college grad or housekeeper is silly. You realize there are PhDs who make $50K, and college dropouts that make $500K?
Do you have no concept of capitalism? You’re “allowed” to earn whatever you want. Your skill set and training make you valuable. Lots of people can clean homes. It’s a low-skilled job. The market doesn’t command a high rate for it. There are a lot of people who can do it. Anyway I don’t care. If op wants to pay 25/hour who am I to say boo. $1000/mo for 2 hours/day of light housework sounds like a nice gig for someone.
You sound jealous, the PP made a lot of good points about why $25/hr sounds reasonable

Her cleaning lady is a hard working 65 year old Filipina who lives in a downstairs basement suite 30 minutes away.
My mom's house is probably 4000sf and has 4 bathrooms.
My mom was NOT receptive to increasing her pay when I talked to her about it.
