this. I would say, simply as photographs these look amazing as usual. But as subjects, it wasn't our best day. Is there any way we might be able to do a reshoot?

Something similar happened to me. I agree be honest and tell her. She also may have more photos she took and didn’t show you.
Oftentimes photographers don’t show you everything and you may be able to pick out some photos that she didn’t deem good enough. It’s worth asking about! Or she may offer to shoot again! You never know!

I'd tell her too. My kids are always disasters at photo shoots, but somehow they look like little kid models when we get the pictures back. Sometimes shots that I want don't happen, but I usually get the ones I want. For instance I really wanted a sibling picture with our Christmas pictures. That didn't happen because DS would only stop crying when I held him. So the photographer focused on a group shot of our family instead.
I also bribe the kids and slip candy in their mouths throughout the whole shoot.

TELL HER, just be honest. .. . I do stuff like this too and you know what , people that you are a repeat customer to want you to actually be happy! Let her know you are disappointed and how she usually is able to capture some magic and ask for a reshoot... worst thing that happens is she says no..

She may be asking because she knows the pictures suck but doesn't want to insult you. Our photog post kid #3 asked to do a reshoot of 2 specific types of pictures before even showing the ones she had to us. One of the retaken shots of all 5 of us (one of the 2 types she wanted to retake) ended up as a Christmas card that year and she only even sent 1 (OKish) picture of 5 of us from the first shoot (of like 100 images total); I assume they were horrendous.

Tell her you made a mistake in scheduling the shoot when you did - you didn't realize how thrashed you were from giving birth, and you timed your toddler wrong.
Then either say "We'll try again next year!" or "Do you have time for a re-shoot?"

You say these weren't as great as the previous ones and could you do a reshoot?
Taking photos a few days postpartum seems like a recipe for disaster unless you are Kate Middleton!

Not sure where to post this...
I attempted to have family photos taken. I was a few days postpartum. Husband and toddler were there too, but toddler was being “difficult.”
I’m not sure there is one usable photo. Someone looks half asleep, or slouching, or the poses are off.
I’ve used the photographer three times before and have been pleased with the results.
She just asked me what I thought of the photos. WWYD? (I’m kinda passive by nature and not really sure what to say.)
