Are you getting a better deal out of state? If not i may be more complicated than its worth. For a better deal, its done all the time. Pick out the car you want, figure out the best price (there are usually online groups/websites to tell you), email a bunch of dealers and see who will give you the best price.

We have done this. Bought out of state, added it to our auto policy, and drove it back to DC with the temp tags. The temp tags are usually good for at least 30 days. It's not uncommon to do this and the dealer should know how to handle it.

No problem. The dealer should even be able to remit your home-state sales tax for you. Make sure they know you will be titling the car in your home-state so that they can do the paperwork correctly.

You won't be able to take the dealer up on any free oil changes or anything else like that that they throw in to sweeten the deal. Maybe use that in your favor. Try to get a little off the bottom line instead.

I have the week off between Christmas and New Years - but will be at my in-laws the entire time in NY.
We are in the market for a new car and I think this is the perfect time to shop. Any issues I need to be aware of? As long as I have temp tags and insurance I can buy it there and register it when I return - right?

How about trading in my current car? As long as I have the title in hand - a none issue - right?
