Agree.

The grandfathering was based on the class year. So odd to be in a elementary where one grade gets Deal-Wilson and the next grade below gets a completely different MS-HS feeder. It must make for odd dynamics within the school.

Here's the DC grandfathering rules from last time: https://dcps.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/dcps/publication/attachments/Boundary%20and%20Feeder%20Pattern%20Changes%20FAQ.pdf

Bancroft and SP will both likely be cut out of the feeder pattern. I think this is 95% guaranteed.

Bougie Bowser is going to send her kid to Maret; no way in hell will she be in DCPS. So I doubt you will see the Mayor favoring SP.

If SES got moved to another feeder pattern it really wouldn’t reduce the numbers at Deal. 50 kids is a drop in the bucket. But the Ward 3 parents and a group of parents (who I know) don’t like minorities which is why they want to remove SES. There are very active parents who are voicing their concerns with city council. I think removal from Deal/Wilson is unlikely in the next round.

This is a huge generalization. Do you know all Ward 3 parents?

Shepherd is most likely to get cut out of the Wilson pyramid. The UMC families will mobilize to prevent it. The answer will depend on the strength of the backbone of the Mayor is this is what she/he decides to do to reduce overcrowding.

Nobody here is going to be able to give you anything definitive. But by 2027 you may not be as concerned with whether your kids has rights to Wilson anyway.

It got 2 years (maybe 3), which is what OP would need.

Even if SP gets reassigned (and to be frank, I think it's unlikely, given that the mayor, council members, etc. live here), there will be a period of grandfathering, so it's likely your kid would still get to attend Deal and Wilson even if reassigned.

Also, it's a great, friendly neighborhood. And, we're getting a Whole Foods just south in Walter Reed!

It's a policy choice that hasn't been made yet.

You're about to see lots of comments weighing in on the merits.

Just remember, it hasn't been decided yet, and it's not firm one way or another.

In recent memory, whenever boundaries have moved, children already in the feeder pattern have been grandfathered in.

By the time of the review, your child will be old enough that he should be fine. Monitor this - there are Shepherd parents preparing for 2022 now and you can join their efforts if you move.

I have a second grader and we are planning on moving to Shepherd Park next year. Our hope is that he will attend Shepherd Park elementary, Deal, and Wilson. I understand that there will be a boundary reassessment in 2022 when my son will be starting 4th grade. Does that mean that it is unlikely that he will be able to attend Deal? Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been answered before!
