Metro plans to raise rush hour fares by as much as $.15 to a minimum of $2.40. The top rush hour fare could rise by as much as $1 for a total up to $7. Many bus routes will be cut, and some metro services may stop at certain hours.

This is what happens when you decriminalize fare stealing. You force everyone else to subsidize law breaking behavior to cover the losses. How bad could this encourage more people to drive? Will this decrease riders even more, sending the Metro into a death spiral of constant rate hikes that lead to more and more rider losses?
