I just like to use ours to track sleep, mostly naps. It tells me how long they sleep for. I really never watch it live.

Ha - my 7 almost 8 year old just asked us to take the video monitor out of her room. We mostly used it in the morning to know if she was up or sleeping in.

From the sound of some of these posts, I guess you’ll take it out when you give DC a smart phone with Life360 installed on it.

I was just thinking about this. Our child recently turned 5. I plan on taking it out soon, prompted about an article on the issue (maybe in the NYT?). I mostly use ours to see when he falls asleep and wakes up to have an idea of how he slept. I admit--I'm neurotic about his sleep. I also use it to monitor the temperature in his room which can get too cold/hot. Anyway it will be good for him and for me to take it out. He needs his privacy and I'll probably sleep better.

I have moderate hearing loss and use hearing aids, which I cannot wear at night. Given this, the cameras/monitors stayed with me downstairs after their bedtime and then on my nightstand for many years. I think we stopped using it when our daughters were 4 and 6.

Of course you don't NEED it. But I do love ours. I like spying on them haha. Their rooms are super dark (black out curtains) so it's the only way I really get to look at them while they are zonked out sleeping. I like seeing if my 3 year old has thrown all his blankets on the ground. I like to watch him while he's singing at the top of his lungs before falling asleep 2 minutes later. I just like watching what he does!

But yes, it's a little addictive and we are close to the end with him. After the big bed transition you really do not need it at all.

I rolled my eyes hard about a video monitor before I had babies. Then a friend gave me a super old one after I had my first. We set it up while sleep training and I LOVED IT. Bought a new one when it died. It's been 5 years and I'll be a little sad when it's time to pack it up forever.

I stopped around 3/4. Once they're old enough to come to your bedroom if they need anything and are potty trained, you really don't need them. Another bonus - baby monitors aren't great to keep in their rooms anyways.

My kids are 3 and 5 and I just took the cameras out this past weekend. We hadn't actually used them for a very long time, at least nine months.

We stopped DS at 5 and only use the monitor in our 4yo DDs room now whenever she is feeling sick.

I used to have baby monitor when my LO was baby. It stopped working before he turned 2, and I never bother to get a new one. Can I ask what do you use the camera for when your kids are older (preschooler age till early elementary school)? To check if they go to sleep or check what they are doing in their rooms?

We still have it for our almost 4 year old (and her little sister who is 1.5). We will keep it in there until she reliably can sleep in her big girl bed (she still sleeps on a mattress on the floor by her choice - she doesn't want a bed yet).

When my DD was 4 I asked her if she still wanted the camera in there. She said she did (because her little brother still has one). Six months later, I asked again and she said she wanted me to take it out, so I did. No issues at all.

I think it's nice to help keep tabs on your kid through the transition to a big bed. After that, you don't really need it, it's just a habit. My youngest is 3 and about to move into a big bed. We'll keep it for a bit, and then remove.

We used nest cams in our kids rooms as baby monitors. The kids are now 5 & 3 and they nest cams are still there, wondering at what age you took the baby monitors out of your kids rooms?
