Wearing one's heart on their sleeve could potentially leave you open to be taken advantage of...but not everyone in the world is terrible and it is a challenge to find someone else kind and considerate. It is possible though, you just have to look in unconventional places.

Bad. If you're going through something serious, I'm willing to help. But, helping you manage your emotions day-to-day would be exhausting.

And, even if wearing your heart on your sleeve is not intended to make me respond to your emotional state, I'd have a hard time ignoring it and pretending that you were keeping your emotions in check.

Generally speaking, people aren't particularly interested in what you're feeling. What you're thinking? Sure. But what you're actually feeling? Nope. Because that would require empathy, and empathy is all but extinct in today's world. Mention what's going on in your heart, and watch the eyes glaze over. No one cares.

Drama is bad.

Depends. Too early in a relationship can kill it. I’ve been on both side—I wore my heart on my sleeve too soon and it was too much too soon; he wore his heart on his sleeve too soon and it overwhelmed me. All the relationships fell apart. I definitely learned how to be authentic, but hold back in the beginning. But once the the relationship is established, I’m an open book.

And professionally, wearing your heart on your sleeve is a career killer.

I like that you know where you stand with this type of person.

I am like this, and consider it a sign of authenticity. I much prefer it in a friend than phoniness.

I wish I didn’t. I try to hide it but damn, it’s hard.

I don’t think it’s good, but I don’t think it’s worse than people who wall themselves off and never allow themselves to feel anything either. Or people who take advantage of sensitive people. They may be the worst.
