This. My Dad lives on a residential side street off of Seminary and people just don’t slow down or pay attention to a car making a turn. I’ve learned to turn on my signal well before his street, but I know that one day I’ll probably get rear-ended by some moron speeding and texting on their cellphone.

You haven't visited your Dad recently, have you? Seminary Road has been reduced to 2 car lanes. It is a parking lot. You can't get anywhere. People who live in neighborhood founded in part by Seminary are in essence stuck there because we can't get out because there are too many cars in our way.

A good friend of mine had to go from her house off of Seminary to Old Town on Tuesday. She finally got onto Seminary Road at 3:39. She arrived at her destination in Old Town, the destination was a total of 3.1 miles from where she turned onto Seminary, and it was 49 minutes later. 49 minutes to go 3.1 miles. That is insane.

Ain't no "moron speeding and texting" down Seminary Road cuz no one, moron or not, can get moving over 2-3 mph.

Seminary Rd. covers a long stretch - not just the part between the hospital and Old Town. My Dad lives off of Seminary west of Beauregard, and that section has a lot of speeders except during rush hours when it gets jammed. During the middle of the day, people fly through there.

The mayor and council do not not care about that part of the city which bleeds into Fairfax County. Mostly poor people and immigrants live in That area and have no political power. If your father lives in Goodwin House or Washington House, they are in the pocket of the octogenarian council member, Del Pepper.

The part if Seminary Rd that is East of Rt 395 and ends at Quaker Lane was reduced from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction to please the bicycle lobby, only one of whom lives off Seminary Rd. He has cowled the mayor and city council into creating bike lanes by threatening them with the blind. Allegedly, blind bicyclists (seriously) and walkers feel unsafe on Seminary Rd and need protected bike lanes as a buffer to the sidewalks. The actual agenda is to discourage drivers in Alexandria. The irony is that Alexandria has been successful in getting new government organizations, such as the Army Headquarters off Seminary and Beauregard to the city. The resulting increase in traffic caused the retirees living if Semjbarr to demand traffic calming. The leader of the bike lobby seized on this to get bike lanes in Seminary Rd.

As a result there are still no bike riders on Seminary Rd but many more frustrated drivers. Nearby Braddock Road and Howard remain four lanes but are lightly traveled. If bike were needed in the area, they could have been added in Braddock and connected to Seminary via Howard. Instead one man caused the clusterfu*k on Seminary, so that he would have a bike lane to connect to his daughter’s house.

You're right. On that side of 395, part of it is Alexandria City and part of it is Fairfax County.

The part that is being addressed here is between Alexandria Hospital and Quaker. It is a stretch of only a mile or so, and our idiotic mayor and his moronic cronies have effectively stopped us all in our tracks. We can't get in or out of our neighborhood. We're literally trapped. And once we get out there is no place to go. We don't necessarily need an expansion but we need to go back to 4 lanes.

How we got stuck with the morons we've got in City Hall is beyond me. And don't get me started on the people who work for the city in the Transportation department. Those people don't live here and couldn't find the nose on their face if their hands were superglued there. They have truly mucked up our city.

+1 And the intersection at Quaker needs to be dramatically restructured. One lane going straight into Janey's, one dedicated right turn lane and one dedicated left turn lane. They may need to take land from the Seminary and the Synagogue to do it.

The whole 2-lane thing is a cluster f*ck of ginormous proportions. We have idiots and thieves in charge of our city hall.

It's very confusing when you're getting off the exit coming south from DC. It's a nightmare if you're trying to make a left.
