I had friends at Dalton in the early 90s and they were plenty smart, staying up late to finish hw for AP classes just like we were. Their parents just paid money for the privilege. One friend went to Brown, I don't remember the others.

It won’t be your choice. Apply to all 3, and be thankful if you get into one. Most people don’t.

I know it’s a private school. but I can’t look at that name with a straight face.

I live in NYC and my kids are in private at a top girls’ school. Trinity and Dalton are definitely ranked higher than Riverdale - the first two are considered” top tier” and Riverdale is “second tier”. Trinity is probably the hardest to get into of all 3 and is the academic/pressure cooker. Dalton is a little more progressive and while also intense academically it’s not quite as bad. Riverdale has a beautiful campus outside of the city but your kids are on a bus starting in K.

I have friends at all three schools, happy to answer any specific questions you have.

I get the impression that Trinity is now the hottest NY private, which was not the case when I was a kid. Not sure of that is good or bad though...

They’re totally different. We toured all three for kindergarten and immediately crossed one off because it didn’t feel like a good fit for us. Do you want a progressive school, a more traditional school, or a campus school (with a bus ride)? Are you a minority (that would affect my response)? They each offer great things, but they’re definitely different.

Dalton = Harvard. Do it.

My pick would be Trinity.

I’m not sure about RCS but it is exceedingly hard to get into the other two schools without a hook. I know at least two accomplished multimillionaire families turned down by Dalton. RCS is a bus ride away. Beautiful campus but it does require travel time from Manhattan.
