OP is looking for shelf-stable foods that can be left long-ish term in a bag for whenever dinner is missed or late. Things in a thermos or an ice pack aren't what she's looking for.

OP, one of my kids has peanut and treenut allergies. If you go to a Wegmans, they have a pretty good selection of nut-free items on their allergy-friendly aisle. Yes, the bars are often carby sweets but for an emergency every now and then, it's ok. Don't Go Nuts and Made Good are two brands we like. What about dried chickpeas?

chomps natural beef sticks at trader joe's, if your dd likes them. One of my kids loves them. The other - no.

I have a picky 4 year who just got done with Nutcracker, also nutfree.

Here’s what I brought:
Apples
Cucumbers
Clementines (a little risky, I peeled - gave her one segment at a time)
Pretzels
Drinkable yogurt
Cheese it’s
Goldfish
Green grapes
Fruit snacks
Teddy grahams

Soup and noodles in a thermos
I brought myself turkey and cheese sandwich which she wouldn’t eat
I would have brought her cheese sticks but she wouldn’t eat
Dried apricots for me

She often ate peanut butter sandwich when we got home

Are a Sandwich and veggies in a cooler and option?
Pasta in a Thermos funtainer that keeps foods warm?

Otherwise, crackers, cheese and an apple

Jerky
Vienna sausage
Bumble Bee chicken salad snack packs (may be made in facility that processes fish)
Cheese Ritz Bitz (may be made in facility that processes nuts - check label)
Bean Dip and tortilla chips
Dried fruit
Shelf stable milk
Nutritional Drink (Carnation Instant Breakfast/Ensure/Slim Fast)

I was going to say Sunbutter cups, the small single-serve to-go kind, with an apple and some Triscuits or something similar. You could throw a few extra cheese sticks in her lunch box along with with a to-go hummus cup and some baby carrots. And Luna bars aren't the worst thing in the world once in a while, and I think the Lemon flavor is nut free.

Whole Foods does a good job of delineating nut free snacks, and these brands are sold elsewhere.

Could you put something extra in her lunch bag with some ice? Hummus and pita, cheese sticks, three bean salad. Something that can get warm but that will stay cold of the day in her lunch bag / in a cooler with you? You would have to do it every day, but that might help. There is a “good” bar that is nut and fish and gluten free that they sell. Could be second back up to have two in her bag at all times

Looking for recs. Over the next month, DD10 and I will have some busy evenings where we are on a tight schedule between school and the nutcracker show she is in. I'm going to do my best to get a healthy dinner for her along the way, but I imagine there may be some days where we are delayed for some reason and dinner plans get all messed up. I want her to keep some filling, shelf-stable snacks in her bag for emergencies but what?

Maybe some kind of bars? I never eat that kind of thing so what are good ones that kids like but aren't mostly just a carby sweet?

The snacks have to be nut and fish free (though I can't imagine that fish is a concern for shelf-stable snacks). Thanks.
